Welcome to Cindy and David's 2015 Adventures
Palm Cove, Mossman Gorge and Yarrabah
The drive north along the coast is irresistible so up we went to visit Palm Cove. It has changed since we stayed there years ago and is now extremely up market, full of lovely apartments to accommodate everyone who has "discovered" its beauty. It is truly a beach destination with not a lot else to do, the nearest shopping would be Port Douglas with all its crowds and traffic.
We enquired about hiring a site at the caravan park and the receptionist looked shocked and asked, do you mean now? I reassured her that no, we were fine for this year, but what about next? Fully booked! But you could possibly get a site the following year! I can deal with booking one year in advance but, really, TWO years, no. We would take our chances.
We decided to walk the Mossman Gorge again and found it just as beautiful as our previous walk some years before. Totally unspoilt even though it is a high tourist attraction. There weren't many Australians we noticed and were totally surrounded by Europeans and their families. They were obviously loving it, enjoying the totally clear water and wild pools.
Our friends who live in Cairns, John and Margaret Britton, took us out and about for a day which of course is always a good thing because they know the area and took us to spots outside of the norm.
Our main interest was the show Aboriginal township of Yarrabah and the surrounding bays and beauty spots. The Cairns area is just stunning wherever you go with its bays and mountains and forests for miles around.
