Scotland - Part 2 - Urquhart Castle, Coloden, Cawdor Castle
Imagine being imprisoned in this cell!
Loch Ness
Colloden field. The museum presentation attached to the battlefield near Inverness was magnificent including a four sided cinematic re-enactment of the famous battle.
Macbeth to the life! This castle is just as one imagines it in the play.
Cawdor Castle gardens - quite stunning.
Farewell to Inverness Castle. We did so enjoy the train. We slept well on the way up but on the way back we did notice it was not such a smooth journey and lo and behold at about 6 am we stopped! Seriously! Silence - no aircon and not even a decent view, having gone through the most beautiful countryside yet, we had to stop with a view of a power station. Eventually it transpired that the locomotive "had failed". Whoops! So 4 hours later a replacement turned up. I won't go into details of the lack of comforts on the train for such an event but will mention the various other passengers who had other trains to catch and flights too. I think one or two Americans will not have good things to say about English trains when they finally reach home. We eventually set off at a spanking pace and reached Watford Junction and were turfed off. Luckily Watford is close to Pinner so we were the lucky ones and reached home in no time whilst the remaining passengers waited for a connecting train back to Euston. Compensation is being offered. We shall see. Probably be travel vouchers!
