Welcome to Cindy and David's 2013 Adventures
Note 36     -     Crossing the Nullarbor to Streaky Bay
This photo-stitch does not really work but it shows the view from one of only two jump-ups on the 1200 km roadp
This photo is remarkable as you can see the curvature of the earth

Somewhat reluctantly we left Esperance, one of the most lovely places on our journey, and set off northwards for 200 kms to Norseman, turned right and immediately found ourselves on the desert road, not really the Nullabor but at that point, the name of the Plains unfortunately escapes me.  The Nullabor starts after the South Australian border much further on.  So this first bit was a bit deadly, especially after the Norseman road which was abundant with wild flowers.
Along the road there are several places the road widens to make a landing strip, presumably for the Flying Doctor Service.
Above is our first night's camping spot.  Very social. Directly below is a laager of campervans and trailers and at drinks time all the ladies brought their wine over for a chat.  They told us they were a group of 14 adults and 18 children!  They were on their way home to Perth from Kangaroo Island.
After another huge day of driving, we spotted a van over towards the cliffs so we investigated and found this amazing spot to camp. (below is the view from our camp fire outside the van).
The rest of the photos are self explanatory!  Except perhaps for the fact that when the sun left us the wind turned very cold indeed.
The last day at the Nullarbor Roadhouse which signals nearly the end of the desert, we spotted this stretch limo being taken towards Perth.  What a beauty!
Lots of pictures of the road... Well there is a lot of road, and not a lot of anything else.
Streaky Bay
Blue-tongue lizard before and after I put my foot near him; we saw lots of them along the road.
Took a drive to Cape Bauer, on the point of the land near Streaky bay
The sign on the right seems to say that the unstable cliffs are a National Building Project as part of the 'Economic Stimulus Plan'..
When it actually refers to the Staircase and pathway to the Blow-hole.
Sunset on the Great Australian Bight cliffs
Drove into Streaky Bay with great relief.  We survived the fruit and veggie inspection at Ceduna; We always worry about a stray apple found by the inspector!

Also our talking book finished before the end of the desert - panic!
