Welcome to Cindy and David's 2013 Adventures
Note 33 - Perth
And onwards to Perth. It really is a pretty city and is certainly well maintained and cared for. We are staying in the north (Gwelup) in a beautiful c/park where we all feel spoilt and comfortable after all those rather basic parks of the past weeks, (all residents have done the same journey)! We constantly meet up with the same people. Ian and Maz are here too. Great times!
Were pleased to be able to visit Carlos and Margaret Carreira (above right - Carlos had to rush off at the end of the visit to pick up one of his grandsons). They live near this amazing shopping centre (left) which in itself is huge but the surrounding area consists entirely of retail stores for kms in any direction. The suburbs are mostly all new and quite lovely. Good roads, and a decent train service supported by buses.
Most of the views are from Kings Park which dominates the city. One magnificent tree is a casualty of the "Windy City".
There's a rather good walk round the park which goes on into the tree walk, below.
More wild flowers!
The old Swan brewery building. The renovated 1879 building contains a cafe/restaurant and function centre which re-opened in 2001. It also contains a micro-brewery which produces malt ales and lagers.
Some view!
There are tree lined roads through Kings Park, each tree commemorating a fallen soldier in the Great War.
We picked up Jack (our grandson) who lives in Fremantle and we went down to the harbour for dinner. He then directed us to Memorial Hill which is the highest spot in Fremantle and has a magnificent view of the very busy port. (They look cold don't they? That's because they were! Perth's wind is something else!)
Now we await Syb and Zoe's arrival on Saturday and we will all spend a week together touring down the south west.
One major issue that arose whilst we were in Green Head, our computer failed. Disaster indeed. We tried a local guy who told David that the disk was irreparable but he could save our data if we liked. We did like! However, the computer was still dead.
We were lucky to be on our way to Perth and a very nice man who sold us a new disk drive and then reloaded everything and now, a week later, here we are. At least we weren't up for a completely new computer. Small mercies.
