Welcome to Cindy and David's 2013 Adventures
Note 10 - Savannah Way
Cobbold Gorge jetty, it has to be moved into place, piece by piece, after the "Wet"
Into the dust and dry earth, first stop George Town where we took a drive out to Cobbold Gorge. Nice little tourist spot with a stunning swimming pool. We did a tour of the gorge which included a long hot DUSTY walk up the escarpment to look down on the gorge (where David spotted a croc) and then on the water thru the gorge on an electric boat. Clever idea because they are silent and so we felt the atmosphere in the silence.
Incidentally, our driver and guide introduced himself to us as Scruffy!!!
(I wonder why)

Croydon was our next stop and David tried for some fish at the local dam. (He is right at the end of the jetty.)
The owners at the c/park invited everyone to sit around their campfire with drinks and for a chat. David has his back to the camera.
Normanton was a pleasant surprise. Lovely shady caravan park and David caught a splendid fish from this bridge!
The Norman River at Normanton and the bridge going to Karumba
From Normanton we drove out to spend the day at Karumba which is famous for fishing and if you are not going to fish don't bother to go there! We had a lot of fun chatting to the beach watchers (guys who knew there was no fish around that day and who had settled on the beach to watch the dozens of little boats returning en masse). All the caravan parks are absolutely bulging and all have their own boats and fishing is all.
On our return to Normanton, there was the weekly refrigerated truck with fresh veggies and fruit for sale parked behind the pub. Very social occasion. There's Cindy paying up on the left.
Below are budgies! We have been incredibly lucky this year with great shows from the large amount of these particular favourites of our's giving us displays as we drive along
Gregory Downs pub and the grotty park behind it where we stayed for one night (too long!) mitigated only by the amazing pork roast we had that night in the pub!
