7  Emu Park to Jacobs Well, Brisbane
To continue with our lovely stay in Emu Park (just for those who don't know Qld, the nearest big town is Rockhampton). We spent some lovely time with Peter and Pam, old friends from way back who are currently staying in the park after their very long recent journey around the country taking along some relatives to show them around this magnificent country.

Lunch at the Waterside with the view of the harbour at Rosslyn Bay.
Emu Park is really just a village but it is beautifully laid out and right in the centre is the most beautiful war memorial overlooking the water and there are several lots of figures down the beachside path which is a lovely touch.

Then came time to move on and start downwards, something we are a little wary of as it will be a lot colder very quickly!  To avoid the dreaded Bruce Highway, we headed out west to take the back roads as in fact it seems so much quicker.  Not sure it is but it is certainly less stressful.  Of course, there is the occasional hiccup such as cows over the road with the stockman and his dogs in no hurry to clear the way.
We were in fact trying to find somewhere we have not been and thought we had found it by following sign posts to Wuruma Dam and lo and behold we had been there on one of our first trips out west!  Still we settled in overnight, joining the dozens of others dotted about in whatever spot they could find.  It is a free camp so it's first in best dressed.   Lovely spot but no somewhere we could stay for long unless of course we had a boat!
Next night in Cooyar we found the Showground and chose a spot there at a nominal fee and went up to the pub as they advertised pig on a spit.  Turned out to be all sorts of meat and stacks of roast vegies plus apple pie and ice cream for the vast sum of $20 each.
AND we listened to this band.  Great music and lots of fun.  Lots of talent around. I suspect they were locals as in farm workers earning an extra buck.
Lots of space and privacy at Showgrounds and very handy for a quick overnight stop.
Our camp for the night at the Showground.  The caretaker had the van on the right;  an elderly gentleman who was waiting for a call from the hospital to go in for a hip operation!  Lovely bloke but it was painful to watch him hobble about his duties!
On the way down to Brisbane, we had morning tea at this rather pretty spot.
Last stop in Queensland at Jacobs Well whilst meeting up with Chris and Peter again for lunch at Wellington Point.  We did a drive around too and found a great deal of building going on everywhere but not huge chunks of high rise flats as per Sydney but really attractive homes.  (A certain Premier of Queensland once said "we do things right in Queensland!")
Brisbane is a really very attractive city. Tomorrow we will be in New South Wales to face the remains of the winter and to stay at Coffs Harbour for a few days before finally leaving for home.  Looking forward very much to seeing everyone.
The middle picture is actually nothing to do with the memorial but is called The Singing Ship and is in the same area as the memorial.
